Infrared Testing: Modified Lens with Filters
This is the Intel modified webcam outfitted with a visible light filter. It will only record the image as it is illuminated by the infrared light of the sun.
The camera is directed at the treetops where the green of the trees meets the blue of the sky.
Click here to see a video of the infrared images.
As expected, the blue sky appears as dark grey. The green leaves in bright sunlight are almost white. The leaves with less sunlight appear in various shades of grey.

Having read through the report, which is very informative, I'm realizing its actually three, quite distinct sets of instructions: (1) How to evaluate a webcam's IR ability and locate its IR filter. (2) If the webcam's IR filter is embedded in its lens, how to make a very simple telephoto lens. (3) How to use the modified webcam body and home-made lens to record IR imagery. Maybe something like, "Infra-red movies with modified webcams and home-made lenses." If you are into it, I'm sure that updating your title will bring in more visitors.
The results are exciting. Of course, I want to see more!
It didn't occur to me when I was "advising" you, but stealing a complex lens from a any camera is another way to go.
I see now that the "black" filter is for eliminating visible light! duh!
